Government information depends on infrastructure that does not automatically persist.

The UK National Archives created a dedicated web archive to preserve government websites dating back to 1996.

This archive exists because government websites themselves change, migrate, or disappear.

Reports remain referenced in parliamentary records, policy papers, and public documents.

But without active preservation, the underlying sources would be lost.

Persistence is not guaranteed by authority.

It is guaranteed by infrastructure.
